After graduating, Dr. Wirekoon entered family optometric practice, providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages. Since 2014, she has also worked collaboratively within an ophthalmology setting, managing eye diseases (including dry eye, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and retinopathy) and providing pre and post-operative care. She is a clinical supervisor and mentor to 4th year optometry students as they complete their final year of study.
Dr. Wirekoon has participated in clinical research and was responsible for overseeing patients enrolled in clinical trials of new ophthalmic drug delivery systems. She has also volunteered for humanitarian medical outreach missions, including travelling to rural Mexico to provide eye care to the underprivileged.
Dr. Wirekoon is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, Ontario Association of Optometrists and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
