Lumea is Officially CO2 Neutral!

Lumea is the first surgical centre in Canada to attain carbon neutral status!

Healthcare faces unique challenges in achieving carbon neutrality, such as the essential use of disposable single use items and instruments to prevent infection and ensure your safety. Nonetheless Lumea has a strong foundation of prioritizing patients and the planet.

In collaboration with Climate Partner, Lumea has become a pioneer in healthcare sustainability practices and is now the first surgical centre in Canada to attain carbon neutrality. Climate Partner determined Lumea’s surgical carbon emissions through internationally recognized standards, establishing and executing reduction objectives, and financing climate projects to offset emissions. This year’s offsetting project involves providing households in Maharashtra, India with improved cookstoves. This sustainability initiative will significantly reduce CO2 emissions by addressing deforestation as well as improving indoor smoke exposure levels. You can learn more about this project here.

Lumea has implanted 100 Light Adjustable Lenses

Lumea was the first clinic in Canada to offer the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens and in a few short months, Drs Khan and Sanghera have implanted 100 LALs. We wish to mark this milestone by sharing what we have learned about this remarkable technology and patient outcomes so far.

The Results of 100 Patients:

  • 97% of patients reported binocular distance vision of 20/20 or better.
  • Furthermore, almost 40% of these patients reported 20/15 vision or better.
  • When tested at a distance of 40cms, 95% of patients reported a near binocular visual acuity of 20/25 or better.
  • Moreover, 1/3 of these patients reported near vision of 20/20 or better.

The Rx Sight Light Adjustable Lens is a monofocal, aspheric IOL that can be adjusted for 2.00D of sphere and 2.00D of cylinder beginning 4 weeks after implantation. At Lumea, we have found that more than 80 percent of patients will opt for blended vision during their adjustment assessments and treatments.

The surgeons at Lumea have leveraged their refractive surgery expertise, to create extremely accurate and reproducible UV light adjustment algorithms, which have led to astonishing results and unparalleled patient satisfaction.
